Atlantic Wire - Specialty Steel Wire
Atlantic Wire's reputation as the producer of the finest quality cold-heading quality wire in North America is well known throughout the fastener industry. It has been said that Atlantic is not so much a wire mill as it is a "heat-treating shop that draws wire," thanks to its controlled-atmosphere annealing department. All the furnaces and their heat-treating cycles are computer-controlled. They are carefully maintained and monitored, and produce wire with a uniformity of temper that is unmatched. This uniformity and consistency of temper enables Atlantic's customers to maintain or improve quality while driving out manufacturing costs lost to setups, inconsistent parts, and sorting and inspection. Atlantic's annealing is also versatile enough to be able to anneal a range of steel from the lowest carbon mild steel for jewelry chain to high-carbon alloys for screwdriver blades.

Atlantic is also distinguished by its capability for chemical cleaning and coating in its two cleaning houses. The Large Cleaning House has multiple sulfuric acid pickling tanks for removal of rust and scale, so that one tank at a time can be taken out of service for its acid to be recycled without interrupting the flow of material through the facility. This ensures optimum conditions to provide consistent, quality cleaning for our customers.

Atlantic also features specialized cleaning facilities to ensure that the steel is free of smut, grease, soot, and evolved carbon so that it is completely clean down to bare metal before it reaches the coating tanks. This is how Atlantic can supply wire and processed rod with superior coatings over a cleaner, smoother surface.

Customers can choose from a variety of coatings, including borax, soap, lime, phosphate, and reactive lube to suit their requirements. Coupled with the consistency of temper provided by the annealers, Atlantic produces the best wire for fasteners in North America.

In the last year, Atlantic renewed its commitment to the specialty wire market by investing in installation of an evaporator that permits Atlantic to continue to be one of the few wire mills able to offer copper and brass-liquor coated wire. This facility is equipped with hydrochloric acid to achieve an even cleaner, smoother surface needed to produce these coatings and the capability of cleaning and coating very fine sizes of wire.

Another one of Atlantic's strengths is the versatility afforded by an array of wire-drawing machines capable of drawing a wide range of wire diameters, from less than 1/32 to more than half an inch in diameter.

All of these capabilities, along with a seasoned, skillful workforce, give Atlantic a versatility that has also won it a reputation for responsiveness and customer service. Atlantic Wire can provide our customers with the competitive edge to make what our industry calls "the specials" - the difficult parts, the parts that won't tolderate long lead times. Today's competitive market requires the quality, versatility, and responsiveness that is the hallmark of Atlantic Wire.
